You're on the clock, and you guys know it. You're having what some are calling the easiest landslide win in midterms history, and the disorganization is going to mess this up.
I understand there are "old timers" who want to distance themselves from the DSA wing, and I get that there are "progressives" who support the DSA. I'm not going to get into that argument, because that's just fuel for MAGA to run with. The Democratic Socialists of America is its own political party, separate from the Democrats. Even if it wasn't, last I checked — hold on, opens Google and searches — yep, they have a constitutional right to function. You know what? Let them be. The issue is the true socialists: the MAGA Republicans.
I said you're on the clock because it's true. Right now you are not where you should be in the polls. Polls don't vote, but Republicans do, and they vote party-line heavy. MAGA has also heavily influenced several Democrats — I see you, Senator Fetterman — so now you're on a losing flight path. Republicans already have "ugh, socialism bad" and "them communists" ads out like crazy. They already have Democrats crossing over like Senator Fetterman, while Democrats are busy fighting the far left.
Trump is in office for one reason and one reason only: relatability, simple. He got people chanting things like "lock her up" and "build that wall" — both forms of socialism in their own way — and what did the Democrats have? Hillary, as if they didn't even consider that centrists exist, even though they make up around 60% of voters, and they played to the progressives instead. Trump and MAGA used their extremist agenda, which was mostly stolen from Clinton and Obama, to draw in moderate Democrats. Add catchy phrases to chant and "speaking my language." Gassing up the far left failed then.
After four years of the tangerine plague, in comes Joe "it's always nap time" Biden. "Sleepy Joe" was not afraid to tell the progressive left to sit down and, while he would work with them, he chose to draw the centrists toward him. He played a layman's game, took the low road, got people chanting, and because of that, Joe Biden brought in enough of the mass voters who live in the middle. That is the winning playbook against MAGA. Tried and tested.
Here's an idea for you and your party to succeed:
1. Affordability is crucial
Get behind the rising costs of everything and say, "The cure for this is Vote Blue No Matter Who."
2. The war in Iran is unpopular
Statements like "I want to see our military return home fast and safe" are important, and when asked how, have an honest answer.
3. Jobs have seen a major drop
Over the last 18 months, with the exception of a few months here and there. Bring a comprehensive agenda where job growth isn't just a win here and there but becomes the standard.
4. Add social topics of inclusion for everybody
This includes the "deplorables" who have strayed away from MAGA.
5. Make sure you point out what socialist and communist actions were committed by the Trump administration
ICE arrests, especially with immunity, is something Karl Marx would love. The government buying private corporations like Intel and "Freedom 250" is socialism and communism.
I say this is how you win a clean sweep, but don't talk about it, be about it. When you say "Vote Blue No Matter Who," you can't afford to show the infighting. There are opportunities to vote Democrats in states like Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, and other bright-red states. It is not because you have the right idea, but because we have the most disliked president in our nation's history. Drop the ego of "we need to move further left" and make the move to actually be centrist for once. You've moved too far left too often for centrists to support you. That's why we are dealing with MAGA — thanks, far left, for being packaged like crap.
I was thinking to myself, do I end this by offering who I'd vote for for president in 2028, but then I said nope, we need to get past these midterms. Instead, I will end this with a moment of clarity. You see, through my whole letter to the Democratic Party, I want to make a few things loud and clear:
(A) I'm not saying I am personally going to vote for the Democrat being run. I need the Democrats to make me feel welcomed. I have no issue writing myself in for every position on the ticket.
(B) I'm not telling you guys to ignore the DSA either. They're leaving your party to join that party for a reason. Find that middle ground and play it well. Paige Cognetti and Gavin Newsom are two who do this very well.
(C) I am not saying I am voting for either of the two candidates mentioned. I just said they know how to play the political game to bring both the far left and the centrist right to the table to discuss ways to fix what MAGA has destroyed.
